A Marketing Parable


Right from my childhood, I was always impressed by the creative ads and marketing campaigns that companies run. Whenever I see a campaign that tells a "story" rather than just pushing the brand  down the viewer's eyes - I light up. Back then I dint know what a story was or  what was just a "simple ad", I just connect to stories. As I grew up, like the many majority others in India, I was moved away from the creative imaginations to the mundane tasks of education & life. But the stories never left me. I would read up kids book, do coloring, then joined the teen detectives also known as The Secret Seven, The Famous Five. Books always accompanied me in my journey along with the story it conveys. Shakespeare to Dan Brown to Brandon Sanderson - I lost in the world of fiction & fantasy and I loved it.

I was always (and still) unsure of what I want to become. My career choices are so scattered that one idea cannot be linked with the other. Being an introvert-extrovert mix, I would appreciate the joys of creative feats I encounter in the outside world but also would be bogged down by the amount of discipline & work one requires to achieve those feats. So far, i never really took a risk in terms of who I want to become. I never really tried the LEAP.

After pondering hundreds & thousands of  things I can do - one thing was always common - STORY. I want convey my story, I want to convey ideas through story. That is when I decided, at this stage of my career - I want to move people through stories. I want to convince people through meaningful stories. And one way I can see that to happen is to learn marketing / digital marketing. I am still unsure of what lies ahead of me, what my life story is - but I do hope this is the beginning.

This is my marketing parable. A place where I share what I learn about marketing - the basics, the complex, the idea. I am sure you have your own story to make. We can together make a STORY.
